GET INVOLVED

There are lots of ways to get more involved with WYSOCS. Read on to find out more…

WYSOCS lectures and short programmes
Is there something nagging at your brain that you’d really appreciate some help to think through? As a Christian, how should you behave in a particular situation, or how should you be thinking about certain issues? Get in touch with us to talk it through – we’re always looking for ideas for upcoming seminars. The Health, Money Matters and Celtic Christianity events, e.g., came about as a result of requests from WYSOCS regulars. Ring Ruth Hanson on 0113 2589300 to discuss your ideas.

Your friends, colleagues and church
Please share information about WYSOCS with anyone you know who you think might be interested. It’s always so encouraging when someone arrives at Outwood House at the recommendation of someone else. Can you help us by putting posters up on your church noticeboard? Do you know someone who might like to go on our mailing list? Pass on their details to us.

Do you think your church or your youth group would appreciate someone to come and talk about what we’re doing? If you have young people at your church who you think might benefit, why not invite us along to speak to a church meeting! Mark Roques on 0113 294 4809 can arrange a speaker for you.

The money bit
WYSOCS are entirely funded by voluntary donations. If you think what we’re doing is important and would like to help us to keep going, please talk to us about how you can give – either one-off or on a regular basis. Either way if you’re a tax payer, by giving through Gift Aid, you can add to the value of what you give thanks to the generosity of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Alternatively you could remember WYSOCS in your will. Ring David Hanson on 0113 2589300 or Cat Thatcher on 01535 215080 to find out more.

The backroom boys and girls
As you can imagine, a lot of work goes into putting together WYSOCS events. We have a small but dedicated team keeping the show on the road. It’s always great to receive offers of help, whether from WYSOCS regulars or from new people, and there are things to do for people with all kinds of skills, from helping to set up the House and Barn for Saturday events, baking in advance of fundraisers and lectures, stuffing envelopes for mailings, to coming up with inspirations for publicity. Call Ruth with offers and ideas.

Teaching
You may think that you have particular skills or knowledge that would be relevant to particular sessions or modules. Tell us about it – one of the big plus points is the wide range of viewpoints and teaching styles we can offer our students. It’s not just about traditional-format lectures and seminars: practical teaching “on the job” is also a big part of the programme. Our students have had practical sessions with artists, gardeners and opera singers, to name just three. Arthur Jones would love to talk to anyone who would like to offer input for our Gap Year Students – call him on 0113 2589300.
