WYSOCS is a Christian education centre exploring the power of faith in learning for every aspect of life. This means that we expect a Christian worldview to shape the way we think about every aspect of the creation. We seek to develop a rich, mature biblical wisdom that does not reduce life to consumption, biology, spirituality or any of the other ‘gods’ of our age. We therefore strive to discern and avoid such ideologies as materialism, evolutionism and fideism. At the same time, we insist that the ‘Christian life’ must not be restricted to church life. We find that liberal theology tends to impose secular blinkers on Christian thought, yet much evangelical culture is unsure of the goodness of God’s creation.
We're convinced that what goes on in the Kingdom of God is just as important as how to get in! Our vision includes all kinds of study, work and play in the idea of God's calling – opening up whole new vistas to church-goers and sceptics alike. WYSOCS is not revolutionary: it’s reformational – about redeeming our culture. In fact, we find this approach provides powerful resources for evangelism where traditional approaches are struggling.
Our vision is open-ended – we will always have more questions than answers. But we’re particularly encouraged by such thinkers through the ages (after the biblical writers and Jesus Christ himself) as:
- the Celtic Christians
- Irenaeus
- the Cappadocian Fathers
- Augustine of Hippo (his later thought)
- John Calvin
- Abraham Kuyper
- Herman Dooyeweerd
- Francis Schaeffer
- Lesslie Newbigin
...and of course many others.
